HIGHLAND RETREAT – OUR SMALL CONTRIBUTION

The opportunity to ‘give back’ is something many of us enjoy. In 2012, while away for a weekend of relaxation in the beautiful Byron Hinterland, my husband and I came across a beautiful high piece of land, 5 acres overlooking hundreds of acres of stunning valley. The energy was just amazing and we knew there and then that this was the perfect spot to realise my lifelong dreams; offering free respite to people financially disadvantaged because of unexpected life challenges, combined with paying holiday accommodation to help fund the program.

Fast forward, and in August 2013, Highland Retreat was completed, offering a self contained 2 bedroom guest wing, with ensuites, private lounge, kitchen and deck. with the generous help from a wonderful local family business, Cabinlife, our Scandinavian style wooden studio cabin, nestled in the trees was completed in December 2014.

When you come to stay, you choose how much or how little interaction you would like. We respect that some guests like to share time with us (and we love that) and others want time alone. Each guest has a different need for company and support and that space is respected. Whatever your requirements, Highland Retreat is sure to revitalize your energy and allow for peaceful emotional and physical space. Massages, reiki, beauty treatments, hair and makeup can be organised on request in the beautiful onsite relaxation room – you don’t even have to leave the premises!

Respite guests are referred through organisations, networks or GP’s. However, if you know of anyone who is struggling as a long term carer (for example, parents with kids with special health needs or behavioural challenges such as autism), is unexpectedly bereaved or struggling with a long term health issues which have caused financial disadvantage, please contact us. We are always open to supporting people genuinely in need of a break.

Paying guests experience a win/win. Your holiday is someone else’s lifeline. Income from our very reasonable rates contribute to respite families much needed stay here with us. We also provide gift vouchers – perfect gift for those you love. Oh, and we don’t change the rates in high season – they are the same all year round.
